A long time ago, I learned that business was all about relationships. And relationships were built out of simple conversations. What we all want is more quality conversations that we can build into relationships that begin to generate revenues. This On-line Social Networking thing is just that.tool that will generate conversation. What’s important is what I learned so many years ago. Every conversation needs to be addressed with the hopes that it will build a relationship that will generate revenue. So… Every time someone replies to your discussion, comment, blog post, etc., it is critical that you reply in some way, even if it’s a short note. You never know when that ‘crumb’ of conversation will finance your new Porsche.

causing your knowledge to build your influence even more

As a gray haired business person, like me, you’ve probably only recently heard of a blog… yet you’re very familiar with a library. So, for today, let’s set the term blog aside and talk about a “knowledge library.” This space on the web is loaded with your knowledge you want to share with others, it fosters collaboration, generates conversation, and it’s potentially viral. What this means is you have developed your own personal library of knowledge on-line, perhaps things you’ve written, perhaps things you’re posted from others.

When a visitor views content in your library, they can comment on it. The next visitor can comment as well, and they may even choose to comment on the previous comment. Once YOU read their comments, YOU can post a follow-up comment and look what’s happening now… conversation.

Sometimes, a visitor will view your post and feel like sharing it with someone else, so they “share” your post and now your knowledge begins to spread beyond the walls of your direct connections. If your knowledge is compelling enough, it could become “viral.” These are basic functions of a blog, or a knowledge library.

I am personally launching a new Knowledge Library within the next couple weeks. I’ll be sure you get the link. I’m using WordPress as the platform and I have a WP developer building a custom format/design for me. You can research blog platforms… there are hundreds of them. I suggest you begin to build a library of knowledge.

Remember we discussed in our challenge to post a short headline in your social networks that will peak the interest of your followers. Within this headline you can place a link to “the rest of the story” and drive traffic to your knowledge library. Think about it… once your visitor is incented to click on your headline and view your library, they now have an open invitation to navigate through your library and learn more… causing your knowledge to build your influence even more. oh yea, one thing to remember… be sure everything you post is accurate and true. Nothing will lose you credibility quicker than bad info…

What makes you different, is that you’ll do this now. Others will wait, watch, consider, and maybe join in at some point. You are where you are now because you are a leader.
